Um... I mean, early on for sure. And I'm not denigrating Techmeme in any way by saying this, but these days new subscribers via the Techmeme website is less than 1%. Maybe we converted all Techmeme visitors at this point? But the majority of new listeners now come from other venues/might never have heard of the website at all!
What kind of growth have you seen in your analytics over the past year when it comes to Spotify consumption? Is that platform growing faster than all the others?
So, I just checked the numbers right now. Spotify is only the 6th most popular client people listen to us on. About 3% of the audience. Has been that small since the beginning with no appreciable growth that I've been able to see. #1 for us continues to be Apple Podcasts, followed close behind by Overcast.
What are your longterm ambitions to scale this beyond the Techmeme Ride Home? You eventually want to have daily podcasts in several different categories, right?
You mentioned that appearing on another podcast is the best way to grow your audience. How do you choose which other podcasts to advertise on and whether they're worth the investment? Also, how do you get other podcasts to bring you on as a guest? Are you actively pitching them?
Can you discuss more about licensing the TechMeme name from Gabe? I assume you get a decent number of subscribers from the TechMeme site itself.
But also, Taegan, if you want to discuss a similar arrangement, get in touch. :)
Thanks. The concept is definitely interesting.
